Sample Interview Questions for Nannies

When interviewing a nanny you want to make sure you ask the right questions. Here is a sample list of questions to ask any potential nanny.

  • Why do you want this job?
  • What was your last job and why did you leave it?
  • How long were you with them?
  • Number of kids you looked after? What were their ages?
  • What do you find the most challenging part of working with children?
  • What type of activities do you like to do with children? (When asking this question make it age specific)
  • How do you discipline children if they are not listening?
  • Are you willing to supervise play dates with other children in our home and or take our child to programs?
  • Are you comfortable assisting with homework?
  • How would you handle a temper tantrum?
  • Are you trained in CPR? Is it up to date?
  • What if my baby / child cries? How will you comfort her / him?
  • What would you like to know about my children?
  • If my child got sick (fever, vomiting etc) how would you respond? What if during the course of the day the fever kept rising despite your efforts?
  • Are you comfortable with cooking? What are your specialties? Can you follow a recipe?
  • Do you know how to swim?
  • Do you like pets? Do you have any experience working for a family with pets?
  • Do you drive?
